Salary: £37,000-£42,000 depending on experience
Benefit: 3% Employer’s Pension Contribution
Tenure: Permanent
Hours: One year contract, 37.5 hours per week
Location: Hybrid working in Lib Dem HQ and Parliament.
Purpose of the Job
The Business, Economy and Sector Engagement Manager will be responsible for our engagement with all sectors from business and farming to education and health, helping the party hear the voices of sector experts and channeling learnings and insights into the heart of our parliamentary teams. This critical role will identify and engage members of the business community and other sectors of our economy including the third sector, gathering and collating their expertise and advice into accurate and condensed findings.
The Engagement Manager will handle incoming requests for engagement from sector experts which are often made directly to MPs and spokespeople. By organising and delivering a series of engagement events and round tables throughout the parliament, this person will proactively seek advice from sector experts and will collate and condense advice and insights into papers and presentations for the parliamentary advisory teams and Leader’s Office.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing incoming advice and meeting requests sent to relevant MPs from those wishing to share their sector expertise
- Meeting with and gathering insights from business people and those with sector expertise
- Contribute to delivery of a series of business/sector expert engagement events and round tables
- Preparation and presentation of condensed findings from sector engagement
- Liaising with MPs and other stakeholders to give them insights gained from sector engagement
- Liaison with our Business Network for the creation of joint events on specific policy areas
Essential Skills and Experience
- Client handling experience, ideally at a senior level in business, or other similar experience of engaging effectively with senior experts
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
- Strong presentation skills
- Political knowledge and awareness of policy
- Ability to engage with a range of sector experts
- Ability to collate broad and complex findings/sector insights into clear reports
- Ability to work at pace
- Sympathy with the aims and values of the Liberal Democrats
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience working in politics, policy or economics
- Event management
