This is an exciting opportunity to lead a media team that punches above its weight and regularly secures agenda-setting media coverage, whether it is front-page newspaper stories or packages on the evening news.
The Head of Media will use their exceptional news judgement, organisational skills and media contacts secure extensive positive coverage in broadcast, print and online media. You will have experience of leading a busy team and supporting them to develop their skills and careers. You will also have experience of crisis communications and effective rebuttal of negative stories.
The ideal candidate will be someone who sympathises with the aims and values of the Liberal Democrats, and has a good understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing the party after gaining a record number of MPs at the General Election.
Key responsibilities
- Managing the media team including by chairing daily meetings, allocating tasks, managing rotas and shaping key messaging
- Planning ahead and working closely with MPs and colleagues to identify media opportunities and maximise positive coverage
- Working with colleagues to develop a pipeline of proactive stories that meet the party’s strategic aims
- Playing a key role in swift, effective rebuttal and handling crisis communications
- Participate in the media team’s out-of-hours duty system
