Purpose of the job

The Liberal Democrats are thrilled to announce a fantastic opportunity to join the Leader’s Office following our historic triumph in the 2024 General Election, where we secured an incredible 72 seats and reclaimed our place as the third largest party in the House of Commons.

As a party that has to fight extra hard for our media attention, making our visuals unique and exciting to capture the media and electorate’s attention is crucial to our success. During the 2024 General Election, we secured incredible media attention with Ed Davey’s eye-catching visits and stunts, which included paddle-boarding in Lake Windermere, water sliding in Somerset and bungee jumping in Eastbourne! 

We’re looking for someone with exciting ideas to take the lead organising these visits, and help us continue our record of success and keep the media’s attention. 

In this crucial role, you will work closely with the Executive Manager to ensure the Leader keeps a consistent schedule of visits across the country all year round. You will gain first hand experience in a high-level political office, and will be handling a wide variety of exciting tasks that are essential to our success.

 

Job Description:

  • Work with the Executive Manager and Chief of Staff to design a schedule of Leader’s visits throughout the year
  • Work closely across departments and stakeholders to organise and deliver visits (including the Media Team, Campaigns Department and Parliamentary Offices including the 72 MPs offices)
  • Lead on meetings and reconnaissance trips
  • Prepare in depth visit itineraries and briefings for the Leader
  • Brief the Leader ahead of visits
  • Work closely with the Executive Manager around set piece events to deliver visits for national media coverage

 

Person Specification:

The following criteria are considered essential:

  • Detail oriented
  • Effective time management
  • Confidence when working with a variety of stakeholders from volunteers to Parliamentarians
  • Exceptional personal organisation
  • Ability to multitask
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a high pressure environment
  • Excellent written communication skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, self-motivating and able manage own workload
  • Familiarity with current issues within UK politics and sympathy with the values and aims of the Liberal Democrats

 

The following criteria are considered highly desirable:

  • Experience in events organisation
  • Experience working with volunteers
