Job Title: Major Donor Fundraising Officer: Legacies

Responsible to: Head of Fundraising

Salary: Circa £35,000

Tenure: Contract

Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week

Location Hybrid: Lib Dems Headquarters, Westminster, London (at least 1 day per week after a settling in period where more office attendance will be required).

 

Purpose of role

This is an exciting time to be joining the major donor fundraising team of the resurgent Liberal Democrats; our growth in MPs from 11 to 72 over the last parliament illustrates the success of our team.  You will be part of an experienced major donor fundraising team, gaining invaluable skills, and play a vital role at Lib Dem HQ as we continue to build growth in income following the recent success of the election.  Your focus will be on the management and development of our successful Legacy Programme, working with our major donors.

 

Team and Role

The fundraising team has ambitious targets to reach, and the political momentum is with us. We are looking for a motivated and entrepreneurial team member with an interest in politics and, ideally, experience of digital marketing (in a private or third sector setting) . You will be a strong team player, willing to take on other aspects of the work of the team as well as growing our legacy programme and managing our legacy society donors. Following an exceptional year for legacy income, we have ring fenced marketing budget for legacy spend in 2024 and 2025. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  1. Increase the number of donors leaving a legacy to the party.  Launch marketing campaigns via email and post to inform our party members about the legacy programme and our free will writing promotions.
  2. Steward existing members of the Legacy Society, showing appreciation by, for example, organising an annual event. 
  3. Manage and report on income from legacy donations, keeping the fundraising team aware of likely upcoming gifts and liaising with solicitors  to secure legacy income and notify on likely timing of income.
  4. Promote legacy fundraising to regional and local parties.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

We are looking for an entrepreneurial, assertive, motivated and highly organised individual, ideally with some marketing, fundraising or legacy experience.

 

Skills and Experience

  1. Experience of marketing, fundraising or legacies.
  2. Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise.
  3. Confident communicator who is able to speak sensitively and appropriately to those considering a gift in their will.
  4. Excellent writing skills and experience in drafting materials and communications for donors.
  5. Knowledge of digital marketing.
  6. Flexibility to work on occasional evenings throughout the year for donor events and to travel outside London for our spring and autumn conferences.
  7. An interest in politics.
  8. Sympathy with the aims and values of the Liberal Democrats.

 

Ideal Skills and Experience

  1. Experience working with major donors, legacy fundraising or digital marketing.
  2. Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge & Salesforce databases.
  3. Knowledge of PPERA compliance.
